Will Schuller will represent the Britton-Hecla golf squad at the Class B state tournament to be held at Prairie Winds Golf Club in Watertown on June 56.
After missing the pre-region due to illness last week the B-H senior carded a 95 to finish 16th in the 48-golfer Region 1B field in Watertown on Monday. The top 19 boys and ties and the top 15 girls and ties qualified for the state tourney, along with the top two boys’ and girls’ teams.
Britton-Hecla was 11th in the boys’ team standings, while the girls’ squad finished fifth.
“Golf is one of those games or things in life that when it’s on, it’s great! When it’s not, it can be hard to shake it off or move on past the missed shots and opportunities,” said B-H coach Ryan Nack. “Frankly, we as a whole struggled at region golf in Watertown this year. We need to find the positive of each golfer’s day and use this as fuel to keep them itching to get out to a golf course more.
“We are proud of our entire golf team that came out this year and excited about our future,” Nack added. “I appreciate the help and support our Britton Country Club has provided for our young golfers and this program. The plan for State B golf is to put down a respectable score each day while enjoying the moment and opportunity.”
Other B-H boys’ golfers included Ashton Mills, 37th with a 113; Jordyn McGregor, 41st at 128; and Braun Kadoun, 43rd with a 128.
In the girls’ division Brynlee Patterson missed qualifying for state by just three shots, shooting a 122 to place 18th. McKenna Heer was 24th with a 138, Corinne Bosse placed 28th with a 158, and Isabel James was 33rd with a 194.
Castlewood and Webster Area tied for the boys’ team title at 268, followed by Deuel and Hamlin at 271, Florence-Henry 277, Clark-Willow Lake 287, Doland 288, Great Plains Lutheran 300, Waubay-Summit 313, Aberdeen Christian 319, and Britton-Hecla 336. Castlewood’s Lane Tvedt earned medalist honors with a nine-over-par 81.
Castlewood also claimed top honors in the girls’ bracket with a 296 total, followed by Clark-Willow Lake at 306, Deuel 330, Webster Area 331, Britton-Hecla 418, and Wilmot 432. Clark-Willow Lake’s Brynn Roehrich topped the field with an eight-over-par 80 on the Cattail Crossing Golf Course in Watertown.
