Last week’s Britton blood drive had a good turnout. 32 units of life saving blood were collected that day. The units donated at the blood drive can help save up to 96 lives.
There was a special guest at the blood drive that day. Stacy Sime, CEO/President of LifeServe, the company that handles blood drives locally, was present at the Britton drive. Sime is the niece and goddaughter of longtime Britton residents Al and Marlene Sime, and she spent plenty of time in Britton as a youth.
Sime noted that LifeServe, a Des Moines-based company, has 75 years of saving local lives under its belt and recently expanded to Britton and other communities in northern South Dakota last year. “The blood collected in Britton stays local since LifeServe is the blood product supplier of Marshall County Healthcare Center,” Sime added.
She emphasized that small towns like Britton are hugely important when it comes to blood drives. “There is a strong sense of community in small towns,” Sime said. “People care about helping one another and are good about supporting blood drives.”
The next Britton blood drive will be Tuesday, August 15 from 12:30 pm – 5:55 pm. To schedule an appointment call Jesse Bolzer at 252-0971 or go to www.lifeservebloodcenter. org
