At Monday’s Britton-Hecla School Board meeting, the board certified the votes cast in the school board election held last month as true and correct. The new board was convened and subsequently oaths of office were administered to Business Manager Kayla Hastings and to Board Members Kelli Erickson, Angela Grupe, and Heather Landreth.
In reorganizational tasks, board officers were elected. Troy Knecht will serve as board president and Mandy Carlson was again chosen as vice president. Board meetings will still be the second Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the BH Board Room. Board members will receive a per diem at $60 per meeting. The board president will receive $70/meeting.
Several official positions were designated. The board appointed Dana Frohling and Rodney Freeman as school attorneys. Depositories and the official newspaper were designated. See the official board minutes for all committee appointments.
Activity prices were set as follows: Students-$4.00 for all activities, Adults-$5.00 for regular games and $6.00 for Double Headers, Student Activity Ticket-$20.00, Adult 10-Punch Pass-$30.00, Adult Season Ticket-$60.00, and Senior Citizen (60+)Ticket$20.00.
Substitute pay was set at $125 for a certified sub for a certified position, $13 per hr. for a non-certified sub, $40/ route for substitute bus drivers.
In staffing matters, a resignation was accepted from Brian Zuehlke as junior high football coach. Working agreements were approved for Kalissa Stelzer as Assistant VB coach and Adam Suther as junior high football coach. The board approved a working agreement with Angela Grupe as head gymnastics coach. Grupe recused herself from the vote. A contract amendment was approved for Salina Pena to accept one additional year of teaching experience with an increase of $1,534.
Business Manager Kayla Hastings distributed the budget information. A short budget hearing was held. Adoption of the budget will be at the August board meeting.
A discussion about changing athletic physicals from biannually to annually in the future was held.
In his report, Superintendent Steve Benson noted that the HVAC project is tentatively 3040% completed. He also discussed staffing shortages and options to fill positions.
A short executive session was held at the end of the meeting. The next regular board meeting is Monday, August 14 at 6:00 p.m.
