Britton Area In National Shoot

The Britton Area Trapshooting Team placed 90th in a field of 240 teams at the USA High School Clay Target League National Championship held July 5-10 in Mason, MI.

The Britton Area Trapshooting Team placed 90th in a field of 240 teams at the USA High School Clay Target League National Championship held July 5-10 in Mason, MI.

Athletes and teams representing 466 high schools from across the nation participated in the event which featured team and individual competition.

Britton Area hit 461 of 500 targets in the opening round of the team competition to finish 90th. The top 80 teams advanced to the championship round.

In the individual competition Dylan Harmon hit 98 of 100 to place 81st out of 1,718 shooters. Other local shooters included Camden Dinger, 93 of 100, Hunter Jensen 91/100, Raymond Schuster 87/100, and Isaak Jesz 86/100. Harmon was among the 400 individual qualifiers for the finals competition and hit 93 of 100 to place 300th.

In the Sunday Team Final, Calhoun High School (IL) took home the title of National Team Champion. It was Calhoun High School’s third National Team Championship title in as many years. The only other South Dakota team to compete in the national event was Winner-Colome.

The Sunday Individual Final was an exciting affair, with 19 athletes shooting perfect scores at the end of regular competition. Those 19 went on to compete in a grueling shoot-off, which saw recent graduate Landon Sievers from Calhoun High School of Illinois persevere to claim the Overall National Champion crown.

Audrey Gordon of Southwestern High School (IL) was one of two females that shot perfect scores and went on to compete in the shoot-off. Gorden edged out her competition to take home the title of top female in the nation.

A total of 34,629 student athletes representing 1,625 high school teams across the country participated in USA Clay Target League programs this spring. Only the top athletes and teams qualified to register for the National Championship, based on season averages at the completion of the spring season.
