The funeral service for Shirley Arneson was 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 17, 2023 at First Lutheran Church in Britton, SD. Rev. Terrill Sorensen officiated the service. Following the service, Shirley’s body was donated to University of North Dakota for scientific research.
Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the church.
Shirley Ann Sorensen was born May 26, 1940 to Christian and Verna (Meyerdirk) Sorensen on the family farm in Minnesota. In her early years her family lived in various states growing up. She graduated from high school in Maysville, MO. Following graduation her family moved back to Minnesota. While living in Minnesota she worked for Rural Electric Cooperative in Wheaton.
In 1967 she married Harlow Arneson and together they became the parents of four children, all of whom were raised on the family farm near Havana. She later divorced Harlow in 1986. She worked at Dakotah factory in Veblen, SD for a number of years making pillows.
She was a member at Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church and loved being involved in the ladies group and quilters circle. After her move to Four Seasons Nursing Home in Forman, ND, she still continued to make quilts for Pleasant Valley. She was a very talented and creative woman and along with quilting SHIRLEYARNESON
enjoyed crocheting and sewing. Shirley loved her kids and grandkids and they all held a special place in her heart.
She passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at CHI Oakes Hospital at the age of 83.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children: Bennett (Shelly) Arneson of Havana; Cheryl (Doug) Anderson of Gwinner, ND; Wanda (Brad) Dudley of West Fargo, ND; Donald (Chrissy) Arneson of Tower City, ND; her grandchildren: Lora (Dustin) Kuchar, Zach (Emerae) Boice, Chase Lindberg, Dallas (Bryanna Lauen), Molly (Dylan Aune), and Hunter Dudley; Elle and Ike Arneson and Anna Hopkins (Jakob Redford); great-grandchildren: Bentlee Redford, Everley Boice, Hayzle Dudley, and soon to be baby boy Kuchar and baby girl Redford; her sisters: Polly (Wally) Johnson, Carol (Paul) Ekberg, and Marily (Dave) Haack; sister-in-law, Esther Sorensen; and many nieces, nephews and their families.
Preceding her in death were her parents; sister, Ellen Schoon; and a brother, Harvey Sorensen.
