HARVEST DAYS THIS WEEKEND

                Harvest Days is back this weekend with fun activities over all three days. Events take place Friday through Sunday with many favorites on the schedule, some events back by popular demand and even a few new ones.

                Friday’s events include free swimming at the pool from noon to 5 p.m. The Buckhorn Rodeo will serve a Community Meal starting at 5 p.m. on Main Street under the big tent.  The big Harvest Days parade, with the theme ‘Backyard BBQ in Memory of Joe Lang’ will start promptly at 6 p.m. Evening activities include a movie at the theatre, the dive-in movie at the pool, the cornhole tournament and  live outdoor music at Snapper’s Dry Bean.

                Saturday includes some fun new events. A medallion hunt is planned starting at 10 a.m. with clues posted at the Chamber Tent on Main Street. One clue will be posted per hour that will send hunters looking for a medallion somewhere around town. All ages can participate in this fun activity with the winner receiving Britton Bucks.

                A Sidewalk Chalk Competition will also start with registration at 10 a.m. on Main Street. Individuals and groups will have until noon to create chalk masterpieces with awards being given in two categories: Best Use of Color and Judges Choice. There is no entry fee and chalk is provided.                 Other new happenings include the Don’t Thump Your Melon event and Bike Rodeo at Marshall County Healthcare Center starting at 9:30 a.m. This is for ages 5-12. See page # for the ad with complete information. New tasty food options include SDSU Ice Cream and kettle corn this year!

                Other Saturday activities also include the WOW Road Race and sand volleyball tournament. The Lions will be serving pancakes at the fire hall between 8 a.m. – 11 a.m. Library activities from 9 a.m. to noon include face painting with inflatables near the library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Kid’s Zone will be open for family fun starting at 10 a.m. on Main Street. 

                The Vendor Fair and Craft Show will be held in the school lobby from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The jigsaw puzzle contest will take place at First Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. There will be more free swimming at the pool Saturday afternoon with the coin dive at 1:30 p.m. and another movie showing at the theatre at 2 p.m. A hit last year, the corn shoveling contest will take place again this year starting at 4 p.m. The rib cook off is also back in the evening. People can enjoy ribs for $1 apiece.

                Later in the day, the car show will be back. Local band Danger Zone plays live on Main from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and will be throwing out t-shirts. The evening’s main event will feature local favorites, The Johnny Holm Band, playing on the street at 8:30. There will be $15 admission for the band.

                Sunday events wrap up with a community worship service at Pool Park at 10 a.m.
