Courthouse Bond Vote Passes

On Tuesday, Marshall County voters went to the polls to decide whether to adopt a $5 million bond for renovations and repairs to the Courthouse and the construction of a new law enforcement center. By a wide margin, the voters decided to pass the bond.

On Tuesday, Marshall County voters went to the polls to decide whether to adopt a $5 million bond for renovations and repairs to the Courthouse and the construction of a new law enforcement center. By a wide margin, the voters decided to pass the bond.

The vote breakdown countywide was 388 voting ‘yes’ to issue bonds and 202 voting ‘no.’ Voter turnout was 20.967% with 590 people voting in total out of 2,814 registered voters.

Across the county, the vote breakdown was as follows: Britton City Wards 1, 2, 3 Yes- 145, No- 37.

Dayton, Newark, White, Stena, Miller, Victor, Pleasant Valley, Lowell, Waverly, Weston, Wismer, Nordland Townships: Yes- 97, No- 44.

Langford Town, Sisseton, Hickman & Newport Townships: Yes- 55, No-15. Veblen City, McKinley, LaBelle & Veblen Townships: Yes- 22, No- 13.

Lake City Town, Lake, Hamilton, Red Iron & Dumarce Townships: Yes- 50, No- 37. Eden Town, Eden, Fort & Buffalo Townships: Yes- 19, No- 56.

The election results are still considered to be unofficial until they are canvassed by the county commissioners. A commission meeting to take that action will be held on Thursday at 9 a.m.

In 2020, Marshall County voters rejected a plan to build a brand-new courthouse and law enforcement center. The plan would have also led to tearing down the old courthouse had no use been found for the building.
