Doris was born on October 8, 1940 in Fergus Falls, MN to Elmer and Bernice Anderson. She was baptized at home and was confirmed at Stavanger Lutheran Church of Fergus Falls. She attended School District 66 in Fergus Falls, MN. She enjoyed a childhood of rural Minnesota life playing by the river, sledding on the hood of the car, and causing trouble with her four siblings-Eunice, Barbara, Lawrence, and JoAnn. She waitressed at the River Inn Coffee Shop of Fergus Falls for many years.
On March 18, 1964 Doris married the love of her life Larry Allen Pavlacky in Sisseton, SD. They enjoyed 35 wonderful years together before Larry’s passing in April of 1999. They loved working together, traveling, dancing, and spending time with family. On March 16, 1965 they welcomed their daughter Stacey. Doris thoroughly enjoyed her years as a homemaker. She loved to clean and bake and created a beautiful home life. Doris and Larry owned stores in Hoffman, MN, Cooperstown, ND, and Britton, SD through 1990. She was a sharp business woman and a jack of all trades keeping books, baking, and managing produce in their stores. They moved to Watertown, SD in 1991 where they managed Stones Inn Motel until Larry retired in 1996. Doris started working as the Property Manager for Mills Property Management in 1996 until her retirement at the age of 72. As much as she enjoyed working, she enjoyed retirement.
She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, doing puzzles, phone visits with siblings, and playing games. She spent many hours on her sewing machine making blankets for her family, sewing Stacey’s scrubs, and mending David’s work jeans. She was known as the “Flower Lady” spending hours upon hours on her beautiful yard. She mowed the entire block-and then someto make sure the yards all looked good in the area. Doris loved to bake cookies and chocolate cake for neighbors, family, her mailman, and the local police department. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren– Holly, Shelby, and Brianna and her great grandchildren– Madisyn, Avery, Lincoln, and Camden. Her face would always light up when they came to visit her. When babysitting she was known to clean the home from top to bottom and supper on the table. She always enjoyed siding with the men in her life–David, Casey, and Ryan could do no wrong in her eyes.
She rehabbed at StoneyBrook Suites Assisted Living and spent her last few weeks at Wheatcrest Hills. She was blessed with excellent care and company from the staff at both facilities. Doris was a fighter from the start. She endured Polio, Cancer 3 times, Auto-Immune diseases, and several other health issues throughout her life. Friends and family admired her strength, enduring all of these ailments until her very last breath with her family by her side.
