In the Marshall County Commission meeting on Tuesday, the group took a step forward in the courthouse and law enforcement center project. After discussing the matter with financial advisor Tobin Morris and Architect Josh Muckenhirn, the board decided to go with the option to hire a construction manager for the project ‘at risk.’ This means that the construction manager has to guarantee that the project will be completed at or below the bond amount.
An official request for proposal will be prepared and advertised until Oct. 10 for the construction manager position. Interviews are planned for later in Oct.
The provisional budget for the county was approved. The annual budget hearing is planned for the next meeting in two weeks.
In highway matters, Supervisor Dustin Hofland noted that they have been blading and hauling gravel. Ditch mowing will start soon. The chip seal project east of Eden to the Day County line will also get underway soon. Hofland noted that the county did not get any federal grant funding for bridge projects.
Travel was approved for several department heads to attend the county convention.
In zoning matters, Riverview, LLP (Marshall West Dairy) was approved effective Oct. 3, for a drainage permit. A plat for Roykota Legacy Estates in Lake Township was approved. Building permits were approved for the following: Tim Tracy in Lake Township, Kendall & Ashley Hagen in Hamilton Township, Paul Thayer in White Township.
The Planning & Zoning Administrator, Erin Collins-Miles, read the first notice for the proposed Zoning Regulations. The first reading was held during regular session. The second reading will take place at the next meeting. A copy of the proposed zoning revision is available in its entirety for public review during normal business hours in the offices of the Zoning Director and the County Auditor, Megan Biel.
Collins-Miles also added that the upcoming FEMA Ordinance is in the final stages of the review process. The Zoning Director will be making final changes to the ordinance to present to the Board at the next scheduled meeting.
October Commission meetings were set for the 10th and 24th.
