LANGFORD TRUSTEES HEAR COMPLAINTS, CONCERNS

Several people were present at the Langford Board of Trustees meeting on Monday Sept. 11 and spoke during the public comment portion of the meeting.
Kellie Alberts, on behalf of the Library Board, discussed a few topics including the reallocation of funds to the library as they have exhausted their annual budget given to them by the Town of Langford.  She also requested approval for the library to use the community room for library programs as they deem necessary.  No action was taken on these items as they were not on the agenda. They will be further addressed at the October meeting.
Fallon Deutsch discussed the Park of the Pines and expressed concern on the lack of upkeep (garbage being emptied, weeds, tree branches, etc.).  Deutsch also stated she’d like to see equipment upgrades and improvements in the works. The board noted that they will ensure garbage and other upkeep is taken care of.
Todd Sell discussed the move of the finance office from the community room building to the fire hall and questioned why this decision was made outside of a Board meeting.
Melody Swearingen discussed three topics including the misuse of executive session by the Board of Trustees and the processes for using executive session.  She also brought up board quorums and open-meeting laws and how much tax-payer money has been spent on the finance office move from the community room building to the fire hall. The board acknowledged Swearingen’s concerns and responded that they understand and follow state codes pertaining to executive sessions.
The board approved Resolution #2023-03  for the transfer of funds. $57,000 was transferred from the electric fund to the general fund. $30,000 was transferred for the purpose of audit expenditures. $17,000 was transferred for fire department supply expenditures. And $10,000 was transferred for the purpose of nuisance property expenditures.
The purchase of a 55-gallon drum of Biomist for the purpose of mosquito spraying for approximately $5,000 was approved. Building permits were approved for Zachary Holler and Keith & Melody Swearingen.
The next regular session of the Langford Board of Trustees is scheduled for Thursday, October 12 at 5:00 pm at the Fire Hall.
