Two Defend State Titles

SF Christian Wins Seventh Straight

Two of the three defending South Dakota state volleyball champions defended their titles last weekend in Rapid City.

Sioux Falls Christian wrapped up its season with a 3-1 win over Rapid City Christian to claim the Class A crown and runs its streak of consecutive state titles to seven, also winning 11 of the past 13 Class A championships. Class AA Harrisburg was the only squad to end up with a perfect season at 31-0, defeating Sioux Falls Washington 3-1 for its third title in school history.

Warner entered Class B tournament play with a perfect 37-0 mark but Chester avenged a loss to the Monarchs in last year’s championship with a five-set thriller to spoil Warner’s bid for a third straight crown.

In other matches in the Class A tournament fifth seed Dell Rapids downed three seed Miller 3-0 to take third place honors, seven seed Dakota Valley defeated four seed Platte-Gedde3s 3-1 for the consolation championship, and six seed Wagner blanked eight seed Lennox 3-0 for seventh.

Second seed Sioux Falls Jefferson finished third with a 3-0 win over fifth seed Sioux Falls O’Gorman. Fourth seed Watertown stopped 10th seed Brandon Valley 3-1 for consolation honors, and sixth seed Sioux Falls Lincoln defeated eight seed Aberdeen Central 3-1 for seventh.

Fourth seed Burke rolled past sixth seed Castlewood 30 for third place in the Class B tournament, third seed Colman-Egan edged fifth seed Wolsey-Wessington 3-2 for the consolation title, and seventh seed Faulkton Area swept eighth seed Gayville-Volin 3-0 for seventh.
