The Langford Area girls basketball team put together back-to-back wins for the first time this season by stopping Wilmot 50-36 last week Tuesday.
Coach Michael Alberts’ squad now stands at 2-3 heading into a Thursday contest at Lemmon.
“We talked about how we wanted to finish well heading into Christmas break and we did that,” said Alberts. “We were able to hit some shots from the outside and we have really started playing well as a team. We have been getting really good contributions from all the girls that have played and we want to continue building depth to our team.
“We rebounded the ball better this game and we have really done a good job of taking care of the basketball all season so far. We wanted to keep building on what we have been doing well, as well as bringing along the areas we need improvement. I think we are excited to get back to work and get better every day.”
Langford Area jumped out to a 13-7 first quarter advantage and outscored Wilmot 158 in the second stanza to lead 28-15 at halftime. Wilmot cut that margin to nine after three periods but the Lady Lions answered with a 13-8 advantage over the final eight minutes.
Alex Darling had a big night for LA, hitting five three-pointers and a gamehigh 19 points. Megan Gustafson added 10 counters and seven rebounds, while Eliana Darling pulled down 10 missed shots and Lizzie Gustafson grabbed nine. Tawnee Nelson was credited with three assists.
