Airport Land Bid Awarded

At the meeting of the Britton City Council on Monday night, bids for 120 acres of farm ground near the airport were opened. These were the second bids submitted by Blake Stiegelmeier and Ray Effling after they were the top two bidders initially. Stiegelmeier submitted a bid of $78 per acre while Effling’s was $75.50 per acre. The council voted to award the lease to Stiegelmeier.
During the update from ISG engineering, engineer Michael Redenbaugh discussed various projects.
Soil boring has been completed on the sale barn lots and the information has been given to MiTek who is considering purchasing some of the lots for a building project. Mayor Clyde Frederickson added that MiTek is now doing some internal work on their end and it may be a while before decisions are made.
The city engineer also discussed the pavement management study. He noted that data has been collected and that they are working on turning the data into a clear report so next steps can be planned.
Attorney Danny Smeins was present to discuss the Impecoven/Tchida land. The two parties are trying to settle a land issue relating to a vacated portion of 12th street that now functions as an alley. Smeins asked that the council approve a plat that would clarify the boundaries of the properties and solve an encroachment issue. The council approved the plat.
In another encroachment issue, the council voted to pay Jay Marx $15,000 for 40 feet of property adjacent to 14th Ave that had been encroached on. The council decided to use the service Shred-It to clean up old paper work at city hall and the library. The service costs $20 per month for the receptacle and $85 for pick up as needed every other month.
As the first meeting of the year, it was also reorganizational in nature. Justin Scott was once again appointed as city attorney. Policies and procedures were reviewed. The council voted to give city employees full days off on Christmas Eve and Good Friday. They also decided to give city employees 5% raises. Other changes are noted in city minutes that will be published later.
