business of the month

If you look at Becky Allen’s social media pages, she might be offering a yummy recipe for ice cream. She might be showing you how to make some tasty cookies or cooking up something interesting with sweet potatoes. Allen is not a chef though, and if you explore her pages more, you’ll see much more non-food related content, including health tips, workouts and inspirational moments. For Allen, this might not be her regular day job, but she finds herself passionate about what she calls “Farm Life Fitness.”

Becky (Stromseth) Allen is an Eden native and graduated from Roslyn in 2010. She attended Lake Area Tech and earned a cosmetology degree. She worked at a salon in Aberdeen for a time before moving back and marrying her husband Ethan in 2014. She soon opened her own salon in Eden, Country Cuts, part-time as she still worked in Aberdeen, but in 2017, made the Eden location her full-time gig.

While the salon keeps her plenty busy, in addition to her two kids, Colt, age 5 and River, age three, Allen still works to make time for another passion of hers, fitness. She says this has long been an interest for her.

She was involved in sports  at a young age  but by high school her time was spent on the farm or helping her mom at the local cafĂ© but she still enjoyed being active and spending time in the gym.  When she lived in Aberdeen, she could often be found at the local Y and enjoyed group classes there. When she moved back to a rural setting, she would get together with friends to workout in Britton and found she enjoyed the community aspect of fitness. Her interest in nutrition also continued to grow over the last few years as she dedicated herself to understanding macronutrients and what goes into balanced eating.
