Remedy’s: Langford’s New ‘Cure’ For Boredom

Remedy’s: Langford’s New ‘Cure’ For Boredom

Langford needed a gathering place. That’s what Micah Small and Carla Hardy thought when they drove down Main Street in town and looked at the big empty building that used to be a bar and restaurant. Consequently, in the last year, the pair decided to take a big leap to open the doors of the vacant smalltown business and Remedy’s was born. The Langford establishment is now over a month in to bringing customers their daily ‘dose’ of food and fun.

The couple behind Remedy’s are both locals with Small having spent most of his formative years in Britton and Hardy being a Langford native. Around a year ago, Small says they jokingly commented that they should do something with that big building on Main Street in Langford.

The building was built by a group of investors in 2015. Known as The Front Porch, the group hired managers to run the place. The business was later leased out and run by a couple other managers and became dubbed The Last Resort. It was finally closed completely and largely sat empty for the last couple of years.

Small and Hardy were interested in making a go of it with the business. There was some history there for them. As a musician, Small had played at that bar many times, and it was Hardy’s hometown after all.

Though they both had full-time jobs in other fields, the couple also had some experience with comparable businesses. Hardy grew up in Hardy’s Rec, a gathering place years back in Langford for youth with billiards and games.  Small had been a cook and helped manage The Hunters in Britton back in the day as well, not to mention had spent his fair share of time in bars and restaurants during his music career.

They inquired about the business from the deed holder, the Grow SD organization. The couple took the extra risk and decided to buy it rather than lease it. They wanted to control their own destinies. (They still rent the adjoining offices to Hair Salon 13 and Grow SD.)
