NMFD Awarded Grain Bin Rescue Equipment

NMFD Awarded Grain Bin Rescue Equipment

As part of Grain Bin Safety week back in February, North Marshall Fire Department was nominated in a contest hosted by Nationwide and National Education Center for Agricultural Safety to win a grain rescue tube and a six hour grain entrapment rescue training session. NMFD recently announced that they have been selected as a recipient.
Currently, NMFD is borrowing a bin rescue tube from Wheaton-Dumont Grain Terminal noted Fire Chief Nate Dinger. “It will be nice to own our own, plus have an extra if we need it.”

Dinger added that bin accidents are always a concern in this area and that rescue tubes are a good tool to have in the fire department’s arsenal. He explained that they work by creating a barricade around someone trapped in a bin where you can use an auger to remove the corn around them.
NMFD hopes to receive their rescue tube and take part in the training in the next few months. They plan to welcome other departments to the training and perhaps even farmers.
“We’re excited for the opportunity to enhance our skills and available emergency services in our rural community,” emphasized NMFD Public Information Officer Austin Sasker.
