Sherman John Vold was born March 14, 1936 in Victor Township, SD to Martin and Laura (Wittich) Vold. At a few months old his family would move to the family farm, where Sherman was raised and lived his entire life. He attended his schooling in Kidder and graduated from Kidder High School. While in school he successfully earned the 100 meter dash record and that record still holds in school history.

Following graduation Sherman spent one year at Northern State College. Throughout college he would cut hair during the week so on the weekends he could make trips to Ellendale to see a special lady, Evangeline Larson. Sherman and Evangeline were married on June 30, 1957 and they made their home back on the farm where Sherman helped his father. They also raised heifer cattle.

In his later years he got involved in auctioneering and started Vold Brothers Auctioneering with his brother, Rolland. He also was part of the Melody Boys Band and played the accordion. The band played for many events all around the surrounding communities.

Sherman passed away Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Marshall County Healthcare Center, at the age of 86.

He is survived by his wife, Evangeline of Britton; his children: Terry Vold of Britton, JoAnn (Stephen) Hawkinson of Britton, Steven (Cindy) Vold of Mitchell, SD, Gene (Jeanne) Vold of Mitchell, SD, and Mark (Beverly) Vold of Barnesville, MN; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, LaVon Buss and LoBay Rorgo; and one brother, Rolland Vold.

Condolences may be directed to the family in care of Evangeline Vold – 42425 105th St. – Britton, SD 57430.
