Adventure will soon begin at the Britton Public Library as youth are invited to participate in their annual Summer Reading Program. The program is open to kids ages PreK to eighth graders and takes place July 8 – July 31.
The fun will start next week with the big kickoff event on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at the library. At this come and go event, the staff will be serving hotdogs, baked beans, chips and bars/cookies. People can sign up for door prizes and learn more about the Summer Reading Program. (No library services are available during the kickoff.)
Registration for Summer Reading then begins July 1. Parents can stop into the library and sign their children up for the “Adventure Begins at Your Library” themed program. Upon signing up, participants will get their tracking form to keep track of minutes read. They can start tracking books on Monday, July 8 and keep track through the end of the month.
Each age group will have the chance to work towards fun rewards with their reading logs. For every 60 minutes read, the child will receive an animal to put their name on and hang at the circulation desk.
There is also pizza at stake! If PreK and kindergarten kids rack up 420 minutes read during the timeframe (15 minutes per day), they will receive a pizza coupon for an eight-inch pizza at Dempseys in Aberdeen or Watertown. First through third graders need to read 840 minutes (30 minutes per day) for a pizza coupon, and the fourth through eighth graders must read 1260 minutes throughout the program (45 minutes per day) to earn a pizza.
Many fun activity days are scheduled for each age group.
For PreK and kindergarten participants, activity days at the library are Wednesdays, July 10, 17, 24 and 31 from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. For first through third graders, they will also meet on those same Wednesdays but from 10:45-11:45 a.m.
The fourth through eighth graders will meet on Tuesday mornings, July 9, 16, 23, and 30 from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.
Reach out to the library if you have additional questions about the Summer Reading Program.
