Seven Britton-Hecla Area trap and skeet shooters finished in the top 10 in various divisions of the state meet held in Aberdeen last weekend.
Five trapshooters have one more date on the calendar. Shooters had to average at least 20.5 on 25 targets during the season to be able to shoot at the national meet in Mason, MI, July 10-15. Competing for Britton-Hecla will be Dylan Harmon, Isaak Jesz, Camden Dinger, Hunter Jensen, and Bridger Patterson.
Harmon has been the team’s top shooter this season. He placed fourth in the state meet, breaking 96 of 100 targets, and also was the top Class 1A in a five-team conference during the spring campaign. Kiera Bennett finished third at state in the female division, hitting 94 targets. She also ranked third in the conference during the season. Harmon and Isaak Jesz also qualified as All-State shooters.
Other top 10 state trapshooting placers included Tucker Hardy, eighth in the JV division; and Talon Dinger, 10th in novice.
In the skeet shooting competition Harmon was third in the JV bracket with 84 of 100, Dinger was sixth in the novice division with a 76, and Dane Horter was 10th in novice at 68.
As a team, Britton-Hecla placed third in the trapshooting competition and 10th in skeet shooting.
Other varsity trapshooting placers for Britton-Hecla were Jesz at 19th with a 92, and Jensen and Dinger tied for 27th with 91, Patterson 103rd at 80, and Monte Hoops 136th at 62.
In the junior varsity division Horter was 14th with an 84, John Rasmussen 44th at 78, Carter Dawson 49th at 76, and Gunner Hardy 79th at 69.
Other Novice Division placers in the male bracket was Daniel Jesz at 16th with 66, Jake Zuehlke 17th at 65, Jacob Rasmussen 30th at 60, and Corbin Dawson 66th at 28. Justysze Konkler was 26th in the novice female bracket at 18, and Josie VanderVorst 28th at nine.
In the JV skeet competition Jensen was 14th at 79 and Isaak Jesz 22nd at 75.
