The Britton Lions Club would like to invite the community to help them celebrate their 80th Birthday at an ice cream social at the Lions Pavilion on Thursday, July 11 from 7-9 PM. In case of rain, it will be held at Fun After Fifty.
The Britton Lions Club was chartered in March of 1944 being sponsored by the Aberdeen Lions Club. There were 53 charter members, all men. They joined the Lions Club International (LCI), the world’s largest service organization, which was founded in 1917 by Melvin Jones, a Chicago businessman, who believed successful individuals should give aid and assistance to those in need. From that time LCI has grown to over 1.4 million men and women in more than 46,000 clubs located in over 210 countries throughout the world.
The motto of the Lions is “WE SERVE” and their slogan is Lions, Intelligence, Our Nation’s Safety.
The Britton Club holds fundraisers such as their annual Harvest Days Pancake Breakfast, Christmas on Parade Soup Supper and their Grand “Pride” Raffle with 100% of funds raised going towards donations and projects both local and globally.
Some of their service projects and donations include collection of used eyeglasses, vision screening, sponsoring community blood drives, caring for the Buisker flower planter, providing park benches around town, sponsoring children to diabetes camp at Camp Gilbert, Food Pantry donation and food collection, building the swimming pool Park Pavilion and Britton cemetery Directory Chapel, Trunk or Treat event and floats in parades.
They now have 31 members, meeting the first Thursday of each month with a guest speaker and fun fellowship. They are proud that one of their distinguished members, Larry Buntrock, served as 5SE District Governor in 2016-2017.
The Britton Lions are always looking for new members who are willing to serve and have fun. Reach out to a Lion for more information.
