The Marshall County Commission convened on Tuesday morning. County Highway Superintendent Dustin Hofland provided updates to the board, highlighting ongoing activities such as blading, gravel hauling, and roadside mowing. He also noted that the Hwy 10 milling project is slated to commence on August 1.
During the session, commissioners approved a resolution to establish a 40-mile-per-hour speed limit on Hwy 1, beginning north of the Veblen city limits and extending to 100th Street. This decision was driven by concerns over heavy truck traffic along the route. Similarly, a speed limit of 40 miles per hour was also endorsed for 101st Street, known locally as Hwy 2, spanning from 441st to 449th Ave, again citing safety concerns related to truck hauling activities.
Administrative matters included the granting of a boring permit for Lake Region Electric on County Roads 12 and 5, as well as the approval of an approach permit near Fort Sisseton. Additionally, the commission issued a one-day liquor license to the Britton Shrine Club for an upcoming event at Fort Sisseton and amended a polling place resolution for the general election, relocating it from Langford Legion to City Hall.
Emergency Management Director Logan Roehr updated the board on the Hillhead Tower situation, informing them of ongoing negotiations with the state regarding who will be responsible to pay for what.
Following an executive session, commissioners voted 4 to 1 against granting a vacation pay-out to a former employee. In personnel matters, the commission accepted the resignation of Bailee Yule from her position as dispatcher, effective July 24.
In zoning matters, a drainage permit was granted to KSP Farms/Kevin Swanson - Newport Township. A plat was approved for C B Addition - Lake Township.
Building Permits were granted to David Finley - Lake Township, Terry Steiner - Lake Township, John Bartkowiak – Veblen Township, John & Kelly Forman - Lake Township, Leonard & Sheri Alberts - Lake Township, Roxanne Tchida - Buffalo Township (variance also granted), Chad Hardina - Miller Township, Levi Peters - Pleasant Valley, Curtis Weber - Lake Township, Jay Hagen - Hamilton Township.
