After a brief hiatus, the Britton Area Chamber of Commerce announced the relaunch of the Britton Bucks program, in collaboration with First Savings Bank, Britton Branch. This revitalization aims to bolster local commerce and support community engagement through a streamlined and modernized approach.
Effective immediately, residents can purchase Britton Bucks in $10 or $25 denominations at First Savings Bank in Britton during regular business hours (Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm). Payments can be made in cash, cashier’s check, or checks drawn on a First Savings Bank account.
“We are excited for Britton Bucks to return,” said Britton Chamber Executive Director Emily Van Lith. “We have had a lot of people eager to use them which tells us they are a great tool to promote local shopping. Knowing our area businesses have most likely been getting some negative feedback while the Bucks have been on hold is difficult. However, we hope the new format is much more user friendly.”
Responding to technological advancements and community feedback, the new Britton Bucks are now standardized in size and format, ensuring seamless transactions at local banks and businesses. The changes simplify the redemption process and enhance usability across the board.
“When it was brought to our attention the banks were having a difficult time processing the old Britton Bucks, we were faced with two options- improvement or discontinue use,” noted Van Lith. “The size and format was presenting an issue. We certainly did not want to discontinue using Britton Bucks unless we had no other option. After reaching out to several other chambers our size we ultimately ended up modeling after Groton's program. The support from First Savings Bank has been wonderful! We appreciate their assistance as well as that of HH Design in getting the new and improved Britton Bucks up and running.”
Van Lith reminds people to hold onto their old Britton Bucks. Customers can exchange outdated Bucks at First Savings Bank for new denominations ($10 or $25). Any difference in value can be settled with cash or a check, facilitating a smooth transition to the updated currency.
Businesses within the Britton area, banking with Norstar FCU and First Savings Bank, are now equipped to accept Britton Bucks. Businesses who use other banks are encouraged to check with their banks about accepting the Bucks, though the new format should make this possible.
Van Lith notes that Britton Bucks are non-exchangeable for cash and no change will be provided for transactions made with Britton Bucks. Businesses retain the discretion to accept or decline Britton Bucks, irrespective of their Chamber membership status.
“We do encourage anyone looking to purchase large amounts of Bucks to call First Savings Bank ahead of time so they are prepared for your request,” said Van Lith. “Questions about Britton Bucks can be directed to the Chamber. We are happy to help you with this transition.”
To support that transition, local businesses have received informational sheets outlining the new program. This resource ensures all stakeholders are well-informed and prepared to participate in this revitalized initiative.
