Cagers At NSU Camp
Britton-Hecla girls basketball players competed at another team camp held at Northern State University last week Tuesday.
“The competition was even better this time as we played Parkston and Lemmon who both played in the Class A SoDak 16 a year ago and Shiloh from Bismarck that placed sixth in Class B in North Dakota last season,” noted Nelson.
The Lady Braves started slowly against Parkston but put together a couple of runs to cut the margin to seven points before dropping a 57-33 decision. Daynika Zuehlke notched nine points, Mallory Grupe six, Sterling Brassfield and Koryn Jones five each, Chellon Pruitt four, and Heather Storbakken and Airiana Buer two each.
Lemmon posted a 64-37 win over Britton. Brassfield netted 15, Pruitt eight, Madi Micko seven, Storbakken four, and Zuehlke two. Against Shiloh B-H trailed by just four with 1:30 remaining before falling 45-36. Brassfield had 10 points, Zuehlke, Pruitt, and Jones six each, Storbakken four, and Grupe and Micko two apiece. For the three games three B-H seniors scored 48 points, three sophomores 28, and four freshmen 29.
“We will be short this year but I can see using eight to 10 girls,” said Nelson. “Hopefully, the young players keep improving and we will see some surprises this year. But we can’t wait until November to shoot and we keep talking about rebounding and being aggressive.”
