Langford’s Summer Fest Delivers On Fun

    Billed as “The Biggest Little Party in Northeast South Dakota,” Langford’s Summer Fest and Alumni Weekend was a great smalltown time, despite some pretty hot temperatures. 
    On Saturday, the Texas Hold’em Tournament at Remedy’s was well-attended.  The winner was Shane Faulk.  donation was made to the Langford Community Foundation with proceeds from this event. The Britton Yelduz Shrine Club Battle of the Bags Bean Bag Tournament placers were, first place- Landon and Sheri LaFromboise,  second- Justin and Jordan Deutsch, third- Scott and Cooper Smith.  
    The slip ‘n slide kickball game which raised funds for Langford Lutheran Parish Christian Youth Ministries was back this year. Winners this year included Connor Smith, Cooper Smith, Ben Gustafson, Rennan Bruns, Conner Glines, Kassen Keough, Jesse Keough, Jackson Bahr, and Gabe Smith.
    A new event, the Fittest Farmhand competition, was a great success and raised money for the Langford Fire Department. Partners competed in bale stacking, post pounding, feed bag throwing,  and tire flipping. Winners were Ben Gustafson and Jesse Keough.
    The Brown Co. Old Time Tractor Pullers put on a fun show Saturday afternoon. Results from the event included: 2700# Class: First- Cory Bremmon, 1942 Case VAC, 116.26. Second- Ryan Kramer, 1946 IH Farm B, 95.25.

    The Langford Show N Shine Car Show was a hit as usual during Summer Fest. 
    Car Show Winners include:
    Chevy Class: 1st Place- Randy Scherbenske, Aberdeen, ’61 Impala Bubble Top, 2nd Place – Shay Clemenson, Webster, ’69 Camaro 228.
    Ford Class: 1st Place- Harvey Opitz, Eden, ’64 Galaxy 500. 2nd Place - Terry Haaland - 1955 Ford Fairlane.         Mopar Class: 1st Place – Dennis Bremmon, Webster, ’64 Plymouth Fury; 2nd Place – Rick LaBay, Westport, ’70 Plymouth Roadrunner.
    Street Rods Class: 1st Place - Mike Wiltfin - 1934 Plymouth Coupe; 2nd Place - Johnny & Gabby Ercink - 1930 Ford 5 Window Coupe.
    Antique Class: 1st Place – Lance and Katie Waddle, Webster, ’41 Ford Super Deluxe; 2nd Place – Ed Jerde, Britton, ’48 Chevy Fleetline.
    Pickups Class: 1st Place – Jim Thares, Mason Jurgens, Aberdeen, ’72 Chevy K5 Blazer; 2nd Place – Terry and Jean Downing, Redfield, ’33 Dodge Bros. Commercial Car HC. 
    Open Class: 1st Place – Dan Arnesen, Aberdeen, ’51 Mercury Custom; 2nd Place – Cade Scherbenske, Aberdeen, 78 AMC Paceamino. 
    Buick/olds/pontiac Class: 1st Place - Ken & Cindy Reinbold - 1964 Chevy Riviera; 2nd Place – Ricky and Bonnie Vander Vorst, Claremont, ’56 Olds 88 Holiday.
    People’s Choice: John and Wendy Russell, Watertown, ’56 Chevy 210.
    Other weekend activities included a Poker Run that raised money for the fire department. 
    Next Year’s dates for Langford Summer Fest & All Alumni Weekend are July 25-27, 2025. (Always the 4th weekend in July)
