Last week, North Marshall Fire Department underwent some specialized training thanks to winning a contest earlier this year. As part of Grain Bin Safety week back in February, NMFD was nominated in a contest hosted by Nationwide and National Education Center for Agricultural Safety to win a grain rescue tube and a six hour grain entrapment rescue training session. The department announced in April that they had indeed won that contest. On Tuesday, several local firefighters took part in the training. They learned how to deploy the rescue tube in a grain bin entrapment situation. The tube works by creating a barricade around someone trapped in a bin and uses an auger to remove the corn around them. NMFD Chief Nathan Dinger noted, “The training went very well. We hope we don’t ever have to use the equipment but it is comforting to know we have it.” The local department now has the new rescue tube at their disposal.
