The Langford Area Board of Education met on Monday night for their regular meeting. Three open enrollments for students coming in were approved. Two intent to return applications for students returning to the district after open enrolling were also approved.
Bids were approved for fuel with DaMar winning the bid, and for the meal contract at the Newport Colony School. The comprehensive plan was also approved.
The district held their budget hearing last night. The budget and the mill levy set by the state was approved. The general education levy is 1.97 per $1,000 of ag land taxable value, 2.69 per $1,000 for owner-occupied houses and 5.44 per $1,000 of commercial property. The special education levy was set at 1.28 per $1,000 of taxable value for all three classes of property.
Superintendent Shad Storley also noted that the school still has two years to pay on the playground project which was financed for three years.
In his administrator report, Storley shared that phase two of the playground installation was complete. He thanked the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, Emergency Management and Conservation Officers and Jordan Deutsch for helping install it. Storley stressed that they will be monitoring what happens with Initiated Measure 28 that would abolish tax on consumables in the state. He is concerned of the effect that lost revenue will have on the state’s general fund.
Storley was happy to note that the cooperative that the district uses has made some changes and will be providing an in-person speech pathologist at the school.
The next board meeting is scheduled for Sept. 9 at 6:30 p.m.
