Curt was born April 26, 1949 in Britton, SD. He passed away on February 20, 2023, four days after being diagnosed with cancer. His personal “Army of Angels” moved heaven and earth to fulfil his last wish, which was to be home.

He grew up a farm boy on the family farm near Havana, attended twelve years of school at Havana Public School, and graduated in 1967. He enjoyed playing basketball and football, but got kicked out of chorus. He went on to attend Wahpeton Science and Mayville State and graduated in 1971. He then moved back to the family farm to begin his life’s dream of farming alongside his dad.

In 1972 he met and married his blue eyed Norwegian and was blessed to help raise three children, Jill, Christina and James. He was always happy to include the kids and their friends in the farming process. He always enjoyed playing softball with the Rutland boys and stayed active in the game as an umpire and later helped with the Phillips Oil girls team. He served as an ambulance attendant and a CPR instructor for area counties.

In the mid 80’s the poor farm economy forced him to seek off farm employment, where he worked for Horton Inc in Britton for several years. Then decided to return to college and received a 2 year degree in computer science. He then worked with his brotherin- law, Kim, in the construction business in Devils Lake, ND. Feeling the need to be closer to home he started working at Wall’s Inc in Britton until his retirement in 2021. He struggled a little bit with retirement but soon fulfilled his days with lawn care, gardening and woodworking. You could always find him putzing around in his garage with his dog, Lexi.

Through the years he has been involved with various clubs and organizations. His favorite time of year was hunting season. He thought if you “salt it,” “stuff it,” or “smoke it,” the hunt has gone well. He spent hundreds of hours making deer sausage with friends and relatives and jerky for his grandkids, only burning to the ground one smoke house.

Left to grieve his passing include his wife of 50 years, Judy; son, James; daughters Christina (Brandon) Nielsen and Jill (Corey) Toyne; his brother, Bob (Linda) Silseth; his sisters, Pat (Steve) Saewert and Paulette (Kim) Paulson; grandchildren: Xena, Shana, Sebastian, Ethan, William, Piper, Haylee, Kevin and Katherine; great-grandchildren: Nova, Lucas, Athena and Ronnie; numerous nieces and nephews; and his brothers in spirit: Scott and Kim.

Preceding him in death were his parents; Orvis and Angeline; brother and sisterin- law, Duane and Pam; his inlaws, Harold and Borghild Lee; and special nephews, Darren Smulan and Corey Saewert.

Condolences may be directed to the family in care of Judy Silseth – 9750 134th Ave SE – Havana, ND 58043.
