B-H Gridders Get First Victory

B-H Gridders Get First Victory
Britton-Hecla’s Daniel Person hauled in a pass as teammate Mitchell Burger prepared to throw a block in recent football action. The Braves picked up their first win of the season with a dominating 48-0 victory over Redfield on Friday.

The Britton-Hecla football team exploded for 34 first quarter points on the way to its first win of the season and a 48-0 shutout over Redfield on Friday.
The Braves, now 1-2, will host Florence-Henry at 7 p.m. Friday.  Florence-Henry is 0-2, losing to Great Plains Lutheran 36-8 and Waverly-South Shore 34-20.  Redfield fell to 0-3 on the year.
“We came out a little flat again in the first quarter, but our kids fought and we were very efficient offensively and defensively,” said B-H coach Jacob Skogstad.  “We ran for almost 400 yards and held them to 18 rushing yards which is awesome. Keys against Florence-Henry will just be to continue to build upon what we started Friday and put our best version on the field.”
Britton-Hecla rolled up 394 yards on 41 carries and tacked on 64 via the airways for a 458 total, compared to just 60 for the Pheasants with 17-18 rushing and 42 passing.  The Braves had 22 first downs, while Redfield managed just three.
Bryce Hawkinson led the Braves with 120 yards on just nine carries for a 13.3 yards per carry average.  Dashel Davidson added 101 yards on six carries for a 16.8-yard per carry average.  For its 41 rushing attempts in the game B-H averaged a gain of 9.6 yards while limiting Redfield to 1.1 yard per attempt.
Hawkinson opened the first period scoring barrage with a three-yard touchdown run, quarterback Jace Rein found the end zone from the six, Peyton Pearson scored from 14 yards out, Davidson broke loose for a 53-yard scamper to paydirt, and Rein scored on an 18-yard run.  Hawkinson and Pearson added conversion runs for the 34-0 first period lead.
Neither team scored in the second stanza but Hawkinson found the end zone again in the third quarter, this time from 26 yards out and Rein added the conversion.  Chaz Vietor wrapped up the scoring when he caught a five-yard pass from Will Richter late in the contest.
