The Langford Area Board of Education held their regular monthly meeting on Monday evening. District 1 Senator Michael Rohl was in attendance. He and the board discussed various legislative priorities and concerns. The impact minimum teacher salary will have on school budgets was discussed as was initiated measure 28 and its effect on funding. Superintendent Shad Storley voiced concerns that if passed, the measure could worsen the teacher shortage problem.
In staffing matters, Alyson Anderson and Pat Sayler were approved for lane changes. A work agreement with Jodi Anderson was approved for her to come on as middle school PE teacher three times per week.
In other board matters, the annual budget and certified tax levies were approved, as were previously published and discussed. Three policies were reviewed including ones regarding copyright, sexual abuse aiding and abetting and non-English learners. See the minutes in a later edition of the paper for exact changes. Krissa Samson was chosen as the board’s legislative action representative.
In administrative reports, Storley walked the board through his regular schedule. He assumed principal and Title director duties this school year in addition to superintendent. He noted that the increased workload is doable because of all the good people in the district. He also shared some discussion from a recent superintendent meeting regarding the increasing difficulty of finding resources to help students and families with certain behavioral concerns.
The next scheduled board meeting is Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 7 a.m.
