LA NET SQUAD PICKS UP PAIR OF VICTORIES

LA NET SQUAD PICKS UP PAIR OF VICTORIES
Langford Area’s Emily Olson (11) and Autumn Wegleitner (20) defended a kill attempt from Britton-Hecla’s Karlie Zuehlke in recent volleyball action.

The Langford Area volleyball squad picked up two wins in five outings in the past week and stands at 4-11 on the season.
Coach Susan Larson’s squad defeated Lemmon and a strong Herreid-Selby team in straight sets at the Ipswich Tournament on Saturday while dropping decisions to Ipswich and Milbank.  The Lady Lions fell to North Central in regular season play last week Tuesday in three sets.
This week Langford Area played Tiospa Zina last night Tuesday, travels to Ipswich on Thursday, and plays at Faulkton on Tuesday.
“Homecoming week was a good week for the volleyball team,” said Larson.  “We played some very aggressive ball all week.  We played some very competitive teams in the Ipswich tourney and played tough for eight out of nine sets.  We let our last set against Milbank slip away from us, but after that struggle we came back and beat a really good team Herried Selby.
“I’m very proud of the volleyball this team is playing right now,” added Larson.  “They are staying focused and remaining competitive despite the scoreboard. Dare I say we are actually playing some very scrappy defense. The hitters are getting more and more aggressive as our season goes on. Eliana Darling made the all- tournament team and is really leading this team front and back row.”

LA 21-20-16
LA came up with 24 kills, led by Eliana Darling’s nine, and made North Central work for its victory.
“Despite not winning, the girls played tough, gritty volleyball,” said Larson.  “They played hard every set, never giving up. It was definitely some of our best hitting and blocking and our defense has been aggressive and scrappy. I’ve seen a lot of improvement.”
