The Britton-Hecla cross country team will run in the Northeast Conference Meet on Thursday in preparation for the Region 1A event next week Wednesday.
Both meets will be run on the Webster course. The start time for the conference meet is 1 p.m. with the regional getting underway at 2 p.m.
“It’s going to be our last warm meet on Thursday for NECs and we have to make sure that we stay hydrated and run our race,” said B-H coach Stephanie Symens. “We are getting to the end of the season and we are running where we want to be.”
The local runners competed in the Eastern Coteau Conference Meet on Monday and ran at Sisseton on Thursday in the past week.
Jeris Stark was the top finisher for Britton-Hecla, taking 16th in a 29-runner field in the varsity girls race with a 23:02.35 clocking over the 5K course. Livia Knecht was 21st in 24:08.99. Joseph O’Brien was the only varsity boys runner and placed 23rd of 29 runners with a time of 21:41.90.
Britton-Hecla was able to field a full time in the junior varsity race, taking third place with 22 points behind Florence-Henry with nine and Deuel with 14. Lillian Boyko led the way in seventh place with a 15:09.33 effort. Avery Leonard was ninth in 15:15.17, and Ceci Anderson 13th in 17:27.32.
Deuel won the boys ECC title with six points, followed by Great Plains Lutheran with 15, Florence-Henry 39, Tri-State 51, and Clark-Willow Lake 55. Clark-Willow Lake was the girls league champ with 10 points, followed by Deuel with 13, Great Plains Lutheran 287, Florence-Henry 39, and Tri-State 55.
At Sisseton Stark was 10th in a 27-runner field with a 23:15.78 effort and Knecht was 14th in 24:11.05. O’Brien placed 26th among 34 runners at 22:10.97. Anderson was the only local girls JV runner and placed 12th in 18:36.32. In the junior high division Mia Kilker was sixth in 11:29.78, Leonard seventh in 11L33.19, and Boyko 10th in 12:04.55. As a team the young Lady Braves tied for second with Deuel with 17 points behind Sisseton with 11.
Deuel won the boys title with nine points, followed by Great Plains Lutheran with 18, Sisseton 30, Florence-Henry 43, and Tri-State 48. Deuel also claimed the girls crown with seven points, Great Plains Lutheran had 16, Florence-Henry 22, and Webster Area 43.
