The Marshall County Commission met Tuesday morning to discuss a range of issues, including the courthouse project and highway matters.
During the public comment session, Jerry Burger once again inquired about updates on the courthouse project and the asbestos report related to the building. However, officials stated that no new updates or reports were available.
In highway-related matters, the commission approved an approach permit for the state, allowing an approach on the east side of a road near the Fort to proceed. The project involves building a house in the area.
The commission also signed a memorandum of understanding with Sargent County concerning the responsibility for a bridge along the state line. The agreement confirms that Marshall County will continue to maintain responsibility for the bridge, as it has in the past.
The commission approved the county’s five-year highway and bridge plan, which is a necessary step to apply for bridge grants and secure funding for future infrastructure projects.
A propane bid from Economy Propane, based in Oakes, was accepted at a rate of $1.24 per gallon. Additionally, the commission discussed a property with back taxes, approving a payment plan allowing the owner a $100 monthly payment. If the owner complies, tax deed proceedings will be postponed.
In other matters, the commission renewed a beverage license for Chinatown in Eden and approved hiring Foerster Testing from Aberdeen for inspection and construction testing on the courthouse project. The contract for these services is set at approx. $34,195.
The meeting included an executive session to discuss personnel issues. Following the session, the board approved the payment of a benefit claim to a former employee.
Building permits were approved for Robert & Colette Hull - Lake Township, Britton Grain Terminal, - Miller, Adrienne Schmid - Red Iron Lake, Duane Kronbach - Buffalo, Brent Thayer - Lake, Jim Gustafson - Veblen, Britton Cemetery Committee - Miller, and Ft Sisseton State Park - Fort.
