From the time she was a young girl, Autumn Olson told people she wanted to be a funeral director. This might have seemed like an unusual choice for a young girl, and looking back, Autumn is not even sure exactly what inspired that job ambition. Still, she did not waver from that goal, and decades later is proud to be the owner and operator of Olson Funeral Chapel in Britton and Forman, ND.
Olson grew up in Wall, South Dakota. Though she is not sure exactly how funeral service became her ambition, Olson said she always enjoyed helping others and liked to sit and visit with people. With that in mind, she wanted a career path that would allow her to serve a meaningful purpose of helping others.
From Wall, Olson headed east to Northern State University where she pursued a business degree and an understudy with the pre-mortuary science program. The program prepares students for admission into mortuary science school. During her senior year at NSU, Olson began working as an apprentice at a funeral home in Aberdeen. This would be a good learning experience for the college student prior to starting mortuary school.
