NEW LEADERS, FAMILIAR FACES AT WHEATCREST

Wheatcrest Hills Healthcare Center has welcomed new leadership, but both are familiar faces. Ada Mundt is the new Executive Director of the nursing home, while Autumn Holland has stepped into the role of Director of Nursing.
Mundt, originally from North Dakota, moved to the Britton area due to her husband’s ties to the community. She first joined Wheatcrest in 1996 as a certified nursing assistant (CNA), became a nurse in 2004, and took over as Director of Nursing in 2013.
Holland, a native of Webster, has lived in Britton since 2012. She began working at Wheatcrest that same year as a medication aide, progressed to become a licensed practical nurse (LPN) in 2013, and later earned her registered nurse (RN) credentials. Earlier this year, she became wound care certified.
Wheatcrest Hills has served the Britton community since 1968, though its name and ownership have changed over the years. Today, it operates under the management of EmpRes Healthcare, which is part of Evergreen.
When leadership changes created an opening for the Executive Director position, Mundt was approached about stepping up to the role. After careful consideration, Mundt felt the facility needed strong leadership and was ready for a positive change. She added that she took inspiration from a previous director, LaVonne Furman, who she said provided a great example of leadership.
“I also felt it was time to take on a new challenge,” Mundt said. She accepted the position and began her new role in September after being granted a special permit.
With Mundt transitioning to her new position, the Director of Nursing role became available. Holland, eager for a new opportunity, saw this as a natural next step. “I love the residents, I love the facility, and I’ve always wanted a director position,” she said. “I didn’t know if I would get the opportunity this soon, so it was a positive thing.” Holland applied for and was offered the position, officially starting as Director of Nursing on Oct. 1.
Mundt expressed confidence in her colleague’s abilities. “She has always been good at her job,” Mundt said. “She knows the staff, residents, and facility well, and I’m sure she will do a great job.”
Holland is adjusting to the responsibilities of her new role, which include overseeing policies and procedures to ensure the facility’s smooth operation. She’s grateful for Mundt’s guidance, as the former Director of Nursing helps her transition into the position.
Wheatcrest is thriving, recently earning a Bronze – Commitment to Quality Award from the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living. This recognition highlights the facility’s dedication to providing high-quality care and improving residents’ lives.
This dedication is certainly felt by both Mundt and Holland who find their work deeply rewarding. “It’s like a big family here,” Mundt said. “We get to know the residents so well and learn their stories.”
“Sometimes we are all they have,” Holland added. “So we’re happy to create a great environment for them.”
While both leaders are still settling into their new positions, they are optimistic about the future. The facility has been undergoing updates, including new flooring, painting, and wall renovations, and they expect these improvements to continue.
The leadership of Mundt and Holland is expected to bring positive change to Wheatcrest Hills and ensure its continued success.
