LA SCHOOL BOARD: BOARD TALKS OUT OPT-OUT AND PRINCIPAL HIRE

The Langford Area Board of Education held a special session last Thursday, continuing discussions on a potential opt-out. Superintendent Shad Storley noted that the board is deliberating on the amount to request from the public and the duration of the opt-out.
“We have a number in mind but are still discussing it,” Storley said. “We plan to finalize our thoughts at the regular January meeting next week before bringing it to the public.” Public meetings will follow, with sessions planned in Langford, Claremont, Eden, and Pierpont. Dates for these meetings will be set after next week’s board meeting.
In a significant update, the board conducted interviews with principal candidates during an executive session. Storley confirmed that interviews are complete, and the position has been offered to a candidate. If the candidate accepts, the contract will likely be approved, and the name announced at the next meeting.
In other business, the board approved matching Groton Area School District’s pay rate to accommodate a substitute bus driver from that district. Storley highlighted the ongoing need for substitute bus drivers. Additionally, the board approved an open enrollment request for an incoming kindergartener.
The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 13, at 7 a.m.
