LA'S FFA WEEK BRINGS BLUE & GOLD FUN

LA'S FFA WEEK BRINGS BLUE & GOLD FUN

With National FFA Week  Feb. 16-22, Langford Area FFA hosted their second annual Ag Olympics to celebrate. The Chapter led by Miss AnnaMarie Sachs provided a week of fun filled contests, fundraisers and dress up days for the school.
With a twist on last year’s ‘kiss the pig challenge,’ this year, students had to vote on which teacher they wanted to ‘hug the lamb.’ Kids brought money to school, and Mr. Michael Alberts was the winner by $4. Another yearly fundraiser is the ‘You’ve Been Flushed’ challenge where a make-shift toilet shows up in random yards throughout Langford. The owner of the yard must pay a toll in order for the toilet to leave their yard and be moved to the next.
New this year was the FFA Car Show. Students signed up to participate and judges selected winners from several categories ranging from ‘the most miles,’ ‘the cleanest,’ ‘daddy’s money,’ the ‘loudest and best work truck.’
For the second year in a row, the  Ag Olympics were planned, with the whole school watching the games. Human wheelbarrow races, milking a bucket, carrying pails of corn, ring toss onto a steer horn and driving a pedal tractor, each class competed for the John Deere Tractor Trophy. This year the winning class was the seventh grade.
FFA Officer Brynn Samson helped organize this year’s events for the week. “My favorite part of the week was our service project. We sewed pillows for area hospitals and made more than we expected. It was cool to have so many students helping out with this” says Samson.
