Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Leah Rae Cole Luitjens was born to George and Erma (Stevens) Cole on January 27, 1945 in Britton, SD. She was the youngest of their eight children. Leah began her education at a one-room country school four miles north of Langford. She went on and graduated from Amherst High School in 1963.

Leah married James Luitjens of Claremont on July 7, 1963, and for the next three years she was a military wife and resided in Rantoul, Illinois and Anchorage, Alaska. After Jim’s discharge from the Air Force they returned to Claremont where they began farming with Jim’s father, and later took over the farming operation. Leah was a farm wife, helping in whatever capacity needed by raking hay, running the combine or helping during lambing season.

Leah and Jim were blessed with two daughters, Tracey and Jennifer. Leah always raised a large garden, and enjoyed working in her yard and tending to her flowers. She enjoyed a good Bible study, sewing and quilting, long walks down quiet country roads, and spending time with her granddaughters, Lexi and Madi.

Leah was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Britton where she had served in various roles. An important goal in her life was to grow in spiritual maturity and live a life that brought Glory to God.

Leah passed away Saturday, March 4, 2023 at her rural Claremont home with her daughters by her side.

Leah is survived by her daughters Tracey (Ben Ziegler) of West Fargo, ND, and Jennifer (Troy Bahr), granddaughters Alexandra Rose and Madilyn KaLea Bahr of Parker, CO; sister Georgia Loberg of Hot Springs, SD; sister-in-law Bonnie Cole of Langford, SD; brothers-in-law and sisters-in law Mike and Marlyce Luitjens of Aberdeen, SD, Mark and Diane Luitjens of Lake City, SD and Paul and Angela Luitjens of Rosemount, MN, and many special cousins, nieces, nephews and their families.
