LA SCHOOL BOARD: PLANS FOR OPT OUT VOTE

LA SCHOOL BOARD: PLANS FOR OPT OUT VOTE

The Langford Area School Board met Monday to discuss several items.
Poll workers for the March 25 Opt-Out Election were approved. Specific details on times and locations for the election can be found in the “Notice of School Opt-Out Election” in the legal notices section.
The board appointed Morgan Holler from Day County, Cory Cole from Marshall County, and Jenn Gustafson from Brown County as representatives for the Local Board of Equalization.
Athletic Director Brett Gibbs provided an update on the school’s golf program, noting that 18 students have expressed interest in joining. The program will be parent-led though it will still be school affiliated, with Gibbs handling scheduling and Michael Alberts serving as the volunteer coach.
The board also discussed setting a date for 2024-2025 negotiations, with plans to address the issue at the next meeting. A vote on the 2025-2026 school calendar was tabled.
Superintendent Shad Storley provided a legislative update, noting that the South Dakota Senate passed a bill this week requiring all elections, including school board elections, to be held on traditional election days in June or November.
Storley also reported on his attendance at the Ag Advisory Board meeting, where discussions included aquaponics and a farm-to-table program. He mentioned ongoing conversations about potential collaboration between the school and public libraries, although no concrete plans have been made.
