LA OPT-OUT VOTE ON TUESDAY

LA OPT-OUT VOTE ON TUESDAY

Voters in the Langford Area School District will decide on Tuesday whether to approve a tax levy opt-out that would generate $575,000 annually in additional revenue. If approved, the opt-out would take effect with 2025 taxes, payable in 2026, and remain in place for seven years, through taxes payable in 2032.
Polling places will be assigned based on county residency. Brown County residents will vote at Claremont City Hall, Day County residents will cast ballots at Ponts in Pierpont, and Marshall County residents will vote either at the Langford Legion or the Eden Fire Hall, as designated by the county auditor’s office. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. If inclement weather prevents the election from taking place, it may be postponed by one week.
The ballot language will present voters with the following question:
”The following tax levy opt-out was sent to a vote by the governing body. The tax levy opt-out does not become effective unless approved by majority vote.
OPT-OUT of such tax limitation in the amount of $575,000 starting with the calendar year 2025 taxes payable in the calendar year 2026. This opt-out will be for seven years, which will be through taxes payable in the calendar year 2032.
A vote ‘Yes’ will increase the tax levy by the amount of the opt-out.
A vote ‘No’ will leave the tax levy as it is without the amount of the opt-out.”*
Voters with questions regarding their polling location should contact the school to confirm their assigned voting site.
For detailed information of the opt-out, including the district’s rationale and potential tax impacts, refer to the Journal’s in-depth report from Feb. 5 or online at the link below:
