Last week, local winners of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit Poetry and Essay Contest presented their work to an audience of Auxiliary and Legion members, families, and teachers. The event also celebrated the 106th birthday of the American Legion, marked with a special cake.
This year’s contest themes were “Honor Our Heroes” for poetry and “What Does America the Beautiful Mean to Me?” for essays.
In the Poetry category, winners included:
Class II – Ella Mundt (1st), Aleece Patterson (2nd), and Giana Nordquist (3rd).
Class III – Alayah Krutsinger (1st), Claire Rabenberg (2nd), and Tinley Beck (3rd).
Class V – Jordon Gutierrez Sanchez (1st) and Parker Hunt (2nd).
For the Essay category, the winners were:
Class I – Elaina Schamber (1st), Laken Tosse (2nd), and Wynn Mattson (3rd).
Class II – Sage Phillips (1st), Kyson Waagen (2nd), and Ayla Sasker (3rd).
Class III – Elsa Bosse-Faulhaber (1st), Tanasia Tisher (2nd), and Fatima Rodriquez Ploma (3rd).
Class IV – Baylee Bender (1st), Paityn Erickson (2nd), and Kaden Mills (3rd).
Class V – Dashel Davidson (1st), Paisley Bray (2nd), and William Richter (3rd).
Class VI – Ryker Guy (1st), Mark Folkman (2nd), and Dezel Styers (3rd).
First-place winners advanced to the District Contest, where Jordon Sanchez placed 3rd, Elaina Schamber took 2nd, Ryker Guy earned 3rd, and Dashel Davidson secured 1st place. Dashel’s essay will now move on to the State Competition.
