BRITTON COUNCIL ELECTION JUNE 3

BRITTON COUNCIL ELECTION JUNE 3

An election will be held on June 3 to determine the Ward 1 councilman for the Britton City Council. Two candidates, incumbent Cristy Davidson and Jerome Marlow, have submitted petitions to run for the seat. Voters are encouraged to check back in the Journal in the coming weeks for candidate questionnaires.
In other Britton council positions, incumbent Mayor Clyde Fredrickson was the only person to submit an acceptable petition for the mayoral seat. As a result, he will continue serving in that role without the need for an election.
In Ward 2, Brian Beck did not submit a petition to retain his expiring seat. As no other candidates came forward, the council is expected to make a one-year appointment to fill the vacancy.
Ward 3 had two positions open this election cycle: a two-year term previously held by Shane Storley and a one-year term previously held by Tim Dahme, who was appointed to the position. Neither Storley nor Dahme turned in petitions. However, Erik Peterson submitted a petition for the two-year term and will assume a council seat. A one-year appointment is expected to be made for the remaining vacancy.
Beyond Britton, numerous other council and board seats were set to expire in towns across Journal Country, including Langford, Hecla, Eden, Pierpont, Veblen, Lake City, and Claremont. However, city officials in those communities have confirmed that no elections will be necessary, as no races received enough petitions to require a vote.
Stay tuned to the Britton Journal for continued updates on the upcoming election and city council appointments.
