The Langford Area track squad opened its spring campaign at a meet in Ipswich on Friday after the event had been postponed from last week Tuesday due to weather.
The LA thinclads are scheduled to be back in action at Milbank on Thursday, while the middle school squad travled to Milbank yesterday (Tuesday) and compete at Ipswich on Monday.
“It was nice to see the Lions participate in a track meet,” said LA boss Brian Schuring. “The weather was nice for the kids to get out and get some times, throws and jumps. We competed well against some really good teams. Now we need to keep getting in shape and we need to strive to get better.”
Paytyn Marlow led the girls squad with a second place in the 100-meter dash, sixth in long jump, and she was part of the sixth place 400 relay team that included Brooke Dwight, Emily Olson, and Lizzie Gustafson. Gustafson was also fourth in the 400 dash and fifth in high jump and Olson was seventh in triple jump. Johnny Behning was the only boys placer, taking sixth in the 400 dash.
In the middle school division Sophia Rodriguez won the 100 hurdles and ran on the sixth place 400 and 800 relay teams with Breckette Zubke, Aubrey Craig, and Bailey Dwight. Dwight was also third in long jump and fourth in the 100 dash. Josie Jensen was second in shot put and Karsyn Rupe seventh in shot.
Case Reints led the middle school boys with third place finishes in shot put and long jump, Eli Samson was fourth in long jump, and Ryker Bruns eighth in shot.
