Langford Area School District principal Mary Hosford and special education teacher Basil Knebel have been nominated for the 202223 National LifeChanger of the Year award. Sponsored by the National Life Group Foundation, LifeChanger of the Year recognizes and rewards the very best K-12 educators and school district employees across the United States who are making a difference in the lives of students by exemplifying excellence, positive influence and leadership.
Hosford was nominated by an anonymous parent of a student who praised her “bubbly personality” and “optimism,” saying that she “brings so much joy and enthusiasm to our school.” The parent went on to highlight Hosford’s willingness to take on extra duties and help out whenever necessary, as well as her strong leadership skills and the respect she commands from her colleagues and students alike.
Knebel was also nominated by an anonymous member of the community who described him as a teacher with a “gift like no other.” Knebel’s “dry sense of humor” was singled out as a particular source of joy for his students, as was his ability to make them feel like they are accomplishing things in the classroom. In addition to his teaching duties, Knebel also drives a school bus and is known for making the children on his route feel like his own. The nominator also praised Knebel’s flexibility and patience, saying that he has a unique ability to meet his students where they are in their learning and development.
Both Hosford and Knebel exemplify the qualities of a LifeChanger, going above and beyond to make a positive impact on the lives of their students and communities.
Each school year, LifeChanger of the Year receives hundreds of nominations from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Eighteen individual LifeChanger of the Year awards will be given during the 2022-2023 school year.
