The funeral service for Phyllis Osness will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 15, 2023 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Langford. Diane Hoines will officiate the service.

Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, April 14, 2023 at the church, concluding with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service.

Phyllis Evonne Goreham was born November 3, 1939 to Norris B. and Marith G. (Waage) Goreham on the family farm. She attended all her schooling in Langford and graduated from Langford High School. While in high school she was named homecoming queen and snow queen. After graduation she went to Northern Teaching College in Aberdeen and earned her teaching certificate. She taught one year at a country school following college.

On March 6, 1959, she was united in marriage with Orlyn Osness, the first marriage to take place in the new Evangelical Lutheran Church in Langford. They made their home in Langford. Phyllis worked at the Langford Elevator before beginning her 40 plus year employment at the Langford State Bank. Orlyn passed away on February 24, 2013 and Phyllis continued to make her home in Langford.

Phyllis enjoyed doing puzzles, crossword puzzles, crocheting, and playing Skip-Bo. She was an excellent cook and baker. Most of all, Phyllis loved being a grandma and being involved in her grandchildren’s lives. She was a member at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Langford, and served in various circle groups. For many years she was on the Langford Library Board and held several positions.

She passed away Thursday, April 6, 2023 at Avera in Aberdeen, SD at the age of 83.

Grateful for having shared her life are her three children: Dakota Hoska of Denver, CO; Mark (Dawn) Osness of Fremont, NE; Susan (Arlan) Holler of Langford; eight grandchildren: Noah and Simon Hoska; Brandon (Marcely), Kyle, Nathan and Erin Osness; Zachary and Parker Holler; one great-grandchild, Eve Osness and one more on the way; and sister-in-law, Marlys Osness of Bristol, SD.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Orlyn; and siblings: Dale (Eileen) Goreham, Lyle (Bev) Goreham, Janice (Allen) Anderson and Darlene (Ray) Freiss.
