DEAN STABNOW

The memorial service for Dean Stabnow will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 27, 2023 at First Lutheran Church in Britton. Rev. Terrill Sorensen will officiate the service. Private family inurnment of his cremains will take place at a later time at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen, SD.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Dean Stabnow was born on July 16, 1934 to Oscar and Bessie (Huckell) Stabnow. He attended grade school at Dayton township #2, SD from 1940 – 1948. He went onto attend high school in Rutland, ND from 1949 – 1950. Dean entered the US Army in August 1954 and became a Paratrooper, Co. B. 188th Airborne Division and served 18 months in Germany. He proudly served as head cook during this time as well. He then served in the reserve unit until 1960.

Dean married Betty Kaye Likness upon returning from the service on August 23, 1957. Dean and Betty spent most their lives farming. They also spent a time owning and running the Flamingo Club by Lake City. Dean worked for various farmers prior to moving to the farm just north of Britton. In 1973, they bought their current farm west of Britton where they lived for the remainder of their lives.

Dean and Betty adopted four children, all of whom survive him. They are: Jamie Hanson of Britton, SD; Corey (Shauna) Stabnow of Britton, SD; Reed Stabnow of Britton, SD; and Claudean (Mike) Hluchy of Aberdeen, SD.

Dean loved spending time with his kids and grandkids. He enjoyed going to many of his grandkid’s and great-grandkids’activities. He also enjoyed gambling and playing cards at Fun after Fifty. He was a member the First Lutheran Church, Britton Handgun Club, Pheasants Forever, Masons, Shriners and American Legion.

Dean passed away peacefully on Friday, April 21, 2023 in Aberdeen at the age of 88.

In addition to his children named above, Dean is also survived by his seven grandchildren: Travis, Teirany, Jordan, Dustin, Morgan, Marcus, and Michael; twogreat-grandchildren: Skyler and Breydan; and one sister Iris Meyer of Gwinner, ND.

Preceding him in death were hiswife,Betty,hisparents,three brothers and two sisters: Oscar (Bill), Roger, Robert Stabnow, Kathleen (Jacobson/Simonitch) and Darleen (Hemmah/ McCarlson).
