LA In Pair Of Meets

Langford Area’s track squad finally kicked off its spring campaign with a pair of meets in the last week at Estelline and Milbank.

Langford Area’s track squad finally kicked off its spring campaign with a pair of meets in the last week at Estelline and Milbank.

Coach Taylor Reints’ squad competed at Milbank yesterday (Tuesday), travels to Sisseton for a 1 p.m. meet on Friday, and the varsity and junior high teams will be at Ipswich for an 11:30 a.m. meet on Tuesday.

“I’d say our opener at Estelline was a successful meet,” noted Reints. “Our jumpers were on the board, we got the baton around the track, and we got to throw outside. Everything right now is a glorified practice anyway so we did what we needed to do and we will go from there.

“We only had one day rest between the two meets so really all we were doing is trying to get into meet shape at Milbank. Times and distances are a second thought right now. Getting events in will remain our focus for now and we might experiment a little (Continued on p7) bit here or there, but the priority is to get in shape quickly and stay healthy at the same time.

“Obviously we are always evaluating and I saw a couple little things that can maybe give us a plan of action in the next two weeks of what we can do,” concluded Reints. “There really isn’t any time to waste so we need to be focused and be in the right mental frame of mind, and that’s what we will be talking about this week.”

Kalen Godel led the Lions in the opening meets with a third place finish in the 1600meter run and fifth in the 800 at Estellilne. He added a third in the 800 at Milbank and teamed up with Isaac Tolaza, Conner Glines, and Skyler Godel to place seventh in the 800 relay.

Conner Glines added a seventh in the 400 dash and Jesse Keough was sixth in the 300 hurdles and seventh in the 110 hurdles at Milbank.

In the girls’ division Paytyn Marlow was fourth in the 100 dash at Milbank and teamed up with Lizzie Gustafson, Brooke Dwight, and Emily Olson to place eighth in the 400 relay. LA did not have a girls’ placewinner at the Estelline meet.
