The Britton-Hecla and Langford Area track squads both competed in meets at Sisseton and Milbank in the past week.
Britton-Hecla was back in action at the Eastern Coteau Conference meet in Webster yesterday (Tuesday) and travels to Groton for the Northeast Conference meet on Thursday. Langford Area competed in the Lake Region Conference meet in Ipswich yesterday (Tuesday) and will be in Waubay on Friday. The Region 1B meet will be held in Britton on Thursday, May 18.
“Wefinallyhadgoodweather on Friday in Sisseton,” said B-H coach Stephanie Symens. “It was great to be able to run when it was nice out. It allows the athletes to warm up and be able to stay warm before their race. We had a good day with season-best times. Now we are going to work on putting the right people in the right relays to be able to get as many kids as possible to state in Sioux Falls.”
LA boss Taylor Reints noted that his young squad is gaining some experience and showing some promise.
“We have a lot of young athletes out for track, and a lot of them them have never competed in track at the varsity level,” said Reints. “I thought our young athletes competed well. They are learning to compete every jump and race which you need if you want to improve. Most of that is mental so I think we are improving our mentality.
“I think they are finding that they can hold their own with bigger schools and older athletes if they have the right mindset,” Reints added. “We are still improving physically which I was hoping would happen a little sooner because this is our last week before regions, but it’s all a process. It would be nice to keep improving this week and keep and gain some momentum going into regions next week.”
