Courthouse Bond Vote Pushed Back

At the Tuesday meeting of the Marshall County Commissioners, the board made the decision to wait on the bond election for the Courthouse project. Though no official date has been chosen, sometime in August looks likely. The election was originally planned for June 6 and sought to approve a $5 million bond for courthouse work.

At the Tuesday meeting of the Marshall County Commissioners, the board made the decision to wait on the bond election for the Courthouse project. Though no official date has been chosen, sometime in August looks likely. The election was originally planned for June 6 and sought to approve a $5 million bond for courthouse work.

Pushing the election back will allow for the 45 day absentee voting period. It will also mean that valuations will be finalized from the state to have a better idea of the upcoming tax levy.

The commission signed a disaster declaration for flooding that will now be sent on to the state. This means that Marshall County has met the required threshold for a disaster but the state still needs to approve it. In highway matters, Superintendent Dustin Hofland asked that the board raise the starting pay for highway employees to $21/hr plus raises at six and twelve months. The current pay is $17/ hr. The board said they will consider Bruce Johnson was present at the meeting to ask the county to work on the culvert by his house, which is located east of Britton near Truss Pros. He noted that the culvert is badly blocked and causes his driveway to flood.. Hofland said he would look into the matter.

A drainage permit was approved for Marshall Dairy West in Veblen Township. Building permits were approved for the following: Jared Holland - office and living space - Sisseton Township; Jay & Jennifer Harris - storage/ bunkhouse - Red Iron Lake Township; Steven Dronen - Accepted for Addition-Labelle Township; Mervin Anderson Jr. - Accepted for new home - Buffalo Township; James Peters - Accepted for machinery storage - Lowell Township; Jameson & Carly Peters - Accepted for a garage - Waverly Township (Variance also approved).

A first reading of an ordinance revising zoning regulations was approved. More information about this will be included in the Zoning minutes.
