SHIRLEY JEAN OLSEN

Shirley Jean Olsen passed away Friday, July 26, 2024 at Marshall County Healthcare Center, with her children by her side. She was 82 years old.

Shirley’s family is honoring her wishes of cremation with no public service. A private family remembrance will be held at a later date.

Shirley Jean (Swenson) Olsen was born January 11, 1942 to Everett and Olga (Brubakken) Swenson in Britton, SD. She was born on her sister Oriette’s 7th birthday and cherished the joint birthday. She was raised on the family farm by Falnes Church in Day County and graduated from Langford High School.

Shirley was united in marriage with Duane Olsen on March 13, 1966 in Las Vegas, NV. They lived in California for a while and then moved back to Marshall County. She worked at Dacotah, DaMar C Store, and other various jobs. She loved her gardens, flower beds, baking and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Shirley was a compassionate caregiver for her sisters in Langford and lent a helping hand when they needed her.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children: Shawn (Don) Schmidli, Kim (Scott) Roeber, Diane (Mike) Lentsch, Donald Olsen and Kendall Olsen; grandchildren: Allison (Roman Stedman) Schmidli, Austin Schmidli, Elizabeth (Neal) Colford, Andrew (Jessica) Roeber,Alex (Lucy) Roeber, Erika (Dalton) Franck, Amanda (Ansel) Streier, Brandon (Phoebe) Lentsch, Jared (Savanna) Lentsch and Mikayla (Jake Cornelius) Lentsch; 15 greatgrandchildren with 2 more due this fall; sisters, Caroline Hoines, Marcella (Rolf) Strand, Ardyce (Victor) Barnes, Marlyce Luitjens, Marlene Sell; brothers, Everett (Patty) Swenson and Michael (Sarah) Swenson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death was her husband Duane, her parents, Everett and Olga; her sisters: Oriette Wold, Eleanor Oelkers and Arlene Pulfrey.
