Daryl James Bergh was born November 20, 1937 to Orville and Gwendolyn (Meyer) Bergh in Britton, SD. He was the oldest of 6 kids. He attended his schooling in Havana, ND and graduated from Havana High School in 1955. After graduation he moved to Britton and worked for local farmers for a few years.

Daryl then moved to Sioux Falls and worked for Greenlee and Morrell meat packing plants. While working at Morrell’s he would work evenings with his sons through Bergh Installation. He later moved to Viborg, SD and did work as a plumber and heating and cooling. In 1996 he married Tammy Smith and they made their home Britton. Daryl helped on the family farm near Havana and was also a janitor at the Britton-Hecla School for over ten years. He retired in 1999 but continued to drive school bus for a number of years.

Family was important to Daryl, and he made sure they knew that. He was always willing to give a helping hand, some brotherly advice and most importantly, check on and worry for his loved ones. Following his grandchildren and attending their activities gave him so much happiness. If a family member or friend called, Daryl always seemed to be able to help. He was a hard worker and a perfectionist. There were not many things he couldn’t fix with his innovative mind. He could build replica models of tractors, combines and other equipment from a variety of objects.

Daryl passed away Monday, September 2, 2024 at Marshall County Healthcare Center at the age of 86.

He is survived by his wife, Tammy Bergh; his children: Jodie (Rick) Engel, Rob Bergh, Rick Bergh, Kari (Loren) Hanson and Troy (Cyndi) Bergh; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; his siblings: Videll (Ron) Gorder, Duane (Verla) Bergh, Gwen Bergh and Paul (Carolyn) Bergh; sister-inlaw, Wanda Bergh; and his precious dog, Bailey.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, David Bergh.
